Why I Volunteer

Outreach Director

I volunteer because someone needs to. I speak out for those people in my community who are afraid they will be persecuted for their beliefs, and for those who already have. My particular position of Outreach in my organization helps to coordinate the individual efforts of everyone in the community and create a larger force that can be seen and heard as a benefit to the areas we work and live in. This has deeply affected me over time. Being a shy and quiet person, who prefers to work behind the scenes, I have had to step far beyond my boundaries to achieve the goals we have set. I have repeatedly found myself in the spotlight, being a representative of something much larger than myself, and taking the stand for those who can't. Pushing myself that way has made me stronger, and I believe much more brave than if I had chosen to sit complacently at home watching prime time TV.
